*UPDATE* As originally reported in this post, Jillian of NuSophisticate has decided to offer her $500 style scholarship to one lucky fashionable reader. Jillian has posted additional requirements to entry. I sincerely wish I was still in school so I can put my hat in the bag for the chance to win. $500 can go along way. Good luck to those who do decide to enter. Please visit's Jillian's new post to get additional information on how to enter.
I love finding new things to explore in my city. I love even more, supporting and shinning the spot light on those involved in endeavors that add to the flavor and uniqueness of my beloved hometown. Over the past weekend I attended an event that infuses fashion, music, and art to produce a fun and creative atmosphere. This third installment of what is a bi-monthly event was filled with vendors selling everything from unique fashion forward accessories and artwork, artists on-site doing live artwork creation, performances, and a fashion show. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and look forward to seeing even bigger and better things to come in future shows.

One of my passions is interior design and organization, which is visible to anyone who steps foot into my home. I enjoy mixing vintage (and thirfted) finds with more traditional and modern pieces to create an interesting and unique look. I also like to find new ways of incorporating traditional items in nontraditional ways to increase the function of a space and still offer it a pop of uniqueness and identity all to itself.
Lately I have been getting more and more requests from potential clients on design assistance and tips on room rearrangement, especially for closet and wardrobe organizing. Nothing can provide better inspiration in offering each person a space tailored to their own individual style than pictures of fabulous spaces.

I had a jammed packed weekend full of get-togethers, dinners, events, and celebrations. Pictures can tell a story soo much better than words.

MBFW has come and gone. Those fortunate enough to have actually visited "the tents" of NYFW are now preparing for London Fashion Week. There were alot of beautiful things presented at NYFW from ready-to-wear looks to beauty looks. I was able to use the online feeds mentioned in this post to join the festivities virtually and pretend that I was setting front row snapping pictures and jointing down notes along side the top bloggers, fashion editors, and high profile stylists of the fashion world (a girl can imagine). While many of the collections displayed fabulous pieces, a collect few really were noteworthy and made my heart skip a beat.

I have no clue how the announcement for Beth Ditto's upcoming colab with MAC stayed under my radar. I adore her. She is fab, fierce, and stylish. I have drooled over all her past collections with Evans and am ecstatic for this new collection with MAC. So far I haven't seen any additional photos surface other than the original teaser picture. I cannot wait to get some deets on what all will be offered in this collection. MAC latest colabs with Gareth Pugh, Iris Apfel, and Daphne Guinness really piqued my interest. The collections lately have been getting better and better. Beth Ditto MAC Collection is set to be released this June.
This just sounds soo freaking fabulous. Betsey's creations, much like her personal style, is always so vibrant, fun, and full of life. I must say I've never been bold enough to wear her frocks, but I have always loved the idea of incorporating a piece or two via an accessory to give life to an ensemble. I am full on for the the idea of Betsey's outrageous designs gracing the tips of my fingers. It's almost too hard for me to wait for the release (patience, ah something I must continue to work on). Luckily, the collection is set to be released in stores next month.

Lately I have been truly inspired to bring out my inner Rachel Ray. I've done mini culinary experiments using my lovely and oh so handsome guy as my personal Mikey food taster extraordinaire (think I just might have shown my age with the Mikey reference). To take it up a notch and make myself feel even more official as the resident head chef, I made my own hors d'oeuvres for an impromptu New Years Eve dinner party. Currently I have a few event projects I am working in which I want to offer my guests a tapas like food selection ranging from petite main courses, desserts, and adult beverages. Of course my mind is full of a million ideas. I love looking at pictures for inspiration. Maybe even you might get a little culinary inspiration of your own.

Valentine's day is fastly approaching. I will be honest and admit it, I'm rather looking forward to being able to share it with my favorite guy (it had been single and fabulous in the city over here for some time). I'm not really big on doing a lot for V-Day, but we do have some rather lovely plans. In addition, over the span of the next 7 days, I will not only need a look for my romantic evening with the fellow, but also one for a night out on the town with the girls and a work appropriate after hours valentine's day themed event. Of course, all my looks will be influenced by the L'Amour season upon us. To me, nothing looks more romantic and love inspired than dresses with drapery, bodycon, chiffon, and tulle in deep reds, whites, and black.

The weather here has been soo unpredictable. I have literally gone from rolled up jeans and loafers to lined trench coats and tights. It's interesting to see just how much the weather has influenced my style this week. Next week I am going to make the conscience effort to incorporate more color, because by the looks of the forecast, winter is indeed here to stay.

While my friend and fellow blogger, personal stylist Andrea Fenise is in the big apple for NYFW, I will be left still slugging it out at home (how dramatic of me right). Can't make it to NYFW either, well Gina Marinelli of Refinery 29 posted about how to access online feeds for NYFW. As it's so graciously pointed out in the entry

Well not really, but I am soo wanting (constant)warmer weather, light breezes, and afternoons in the park. It's just the beginning of February yet I find myself feeling more and more attuned with spring. Lately I have been drawn to softer candy colors like mint, lavender, rose, lilac, apricot, and peach which all seem to end up in my shopping cart. From vintage blazers to nail polishes, jewelry and shoes they all seem to be in the colors of the upcoming season. I cannot wait until Spring is indeed upon us.

While perusing my favorite blogs I came across this post by the fabulous Jillian of NuSophisticate. She has decided to offer a $500 scholarship to one lucky fashionista. To enter, the scholarship hopeful most be enrolled in an institution of higher education (fashion school, college, grad-school is all applicable) and post one picture in their most style worthy ensemble. Once the entries are posted Jillian will let her readers vote on their favorite entry. The catch is, in order for the contest to be held, those interested have to submit an email expressing their interest in participating. If enough people express interest, the contest is on. So ladies, get those emails in. As Jillian so appropriately stated, $500 can go a long way on on things such as funds for books or a pair of fab new shoes, both of which are necessities for any college diva.

I love it when I come across online gems and Cinhte Magazine most definitely tickles my fancy. Cinhte is fairly new, having celebrated their one-year anniversary this past September. It is a limited print publication, releasing bi-monthly editions focusing on culture and style of people of color from around the world. This month they unveiled their new look. I was sold with the very first entry on their website I came across for their style icon of the week Shingai Shoniwa the lead singer of UK indie rock band Noisettes. I love the way in which she blends color, classic feminine silhouettes, with rocker chic prints and embellishments. In the post Cinhthe states:
We love her music. We love her hair. We love her style... Her first name, Shingai, means ‘be strong’ and that she definitely is.I most definitely agree. I haven't seen this magazine around my way, but I'm most definitely looking into getting a subscription.
While doing a little online browsing (okay, shopping), I was able to purchase a few items that have been living on my wish list. All of the items were on sale, so score for me. I've been working hard on getting healthy and in better shape (post coming soon), so I was really excited to find some new pieces to incorporate into my wardrobe.

The three celebrity style loves of my life are Tracey Ellis Ross, Solange Knowles, and Shingai Shoniwa. All three ladies have a style unique to their own and rock radiant, wonderful, and voluminous natural hair. So you can't imagine how excited I was to find out that Solange was doing a seven day long "What I Wore" blog on Vogue UK. Her style has transformed over the years to depict a beautiful eclectic point-of-view combining bold prints, pops of color, and a appreciation for unique details.
On her blog each day she will post pictures offering deets to of her outfits and giving us a glimpse into her daily routine. She comes off in the few lines posted as warm and full of life as her style depicts. So far she has only posted three daily outfits, so I will most definitely continue checking to see what she posts next.

Jason Wu for Target is finally upon us. I forgot and let the midnight hour go by, so of course by the time I got around to Target's website, the items that I wanted were sold out online. I'm debating on if I want to go to my neighborhood store and try to grab me a few pieces. Hopefully this release won't be as crazy as the Missoni release. Did anyone attempt a little late night online shopping? Or did you have the courage to forge through the onslaught of eager shoppers to get pieces from the collection?

I've been around the block per say. For it's been oh so long since I've made any sort of attempt at blogging. So here I sit, five blogs later finally pushing myself, no capitulating myself, towards owning what I've been wanting. Fashion Mode is the culmination of my admiration of all things fashionable. This is my attempt at melding my educational background, training, and loves together. This is still rather a work in progress so please bear with me.
I believe that fashion is apart of every aspect of our lives. It a holistic experience and cannot be viewed through just one lens. With Fashion Mode I present the variations of fashion, my modes. So I guess this is my coming out. I am a fashion/lifestyle/etiquette debutante.
